My Goats

BIG AL

Lots of updates about the goats to add.

I just bought my first fullblood boer goat.  He is a 4 month old male and is named Big Al.  He is a beautiful young man, with lots of potential.  I am hoping to get a couple of percentage does by spring, and start breeding boers.  I am selling Moose, and several of my nannies, to make room for the Boers.  I plan on keeping Ester, Penny, Ruth, Dolly and Betty.   Ester and Penny are just pets, nothing more, and will be kept seperate with Billy.  Ruth, Dolly and Betty are big girls, what is considered brush goats, and I will breed the boer with them.

UPDATE:  big Al was sold, and we got Louie, then sold him too.  Ruth died, Liza Jane died too leaving 2 twin babies I have to bottle feed now.  They are Blue and Ruby.  Beautiful babies.  We also have Dot, Dorrie and Della.  All three are purebred boers and have had twins each.  Dot had hers first, on election night, so they are called George and Laura, then Dorrie and Della had theirs together, got them mixed up.  Dorrie is raising two, Bart and Gretchen, and Della has the girls, Goldie and Greta.  We have Ginger, Cocoa, Precious, Janie and the newest is Lucy.  She is a doll.  Just a sweet lovable pet.
Ginger died.  Ruth had her babies, two billies, one died, the other is doing great.  He is buster.
Pearl had Nick and Holly on Christmas day.  They are georgous!  Betsy has Jersey and Blackjack.  Jersey almost died, but we milked mom, brought jersey home and kept her in the house warm and cozy, fed her mama milk, and in two days she was jumping and playing.  I took her back to Betsy, and that good mama goat took her right back.  They are doing great too. :)
Since we had sold Louie, we bought Gus.  He is a registered Boer and he is THE man.  He has been taking care of breeding Dorrie, Della, Dot and Janey.

This is Bart and Gretchen.  the others are della, goldie and greta.  Goldie is standing on the camper with Lucy and Billy.  The picture of the lovebirds are Lucy and Billy.  They are sweethearts now.  If you look close, his teeth are showing, like he is smiling.  LOL
NAME CHANGE:  Lucy is now called Willie.  Because the friend that gave her to me is Willie, and Matthew never could remember who lucy was, he would say just call her Willie so I know which one it is, so, she is now Willie.

I am addicted...

I love my goats!!!

Ester and Billy

Ester was our first goat.  She came to us as a very scared little girl.  She had been mistreated.  Her ears flip out on the ends and she looks just like the flying nun. (remember that show?)  She was our only goat for several months, and she became best friends with our dog Miss Daizy.  She would cry everytime Daizy got out of her sight, so I decided she needed a friend in the goat family.  Matthew and I got Billy from a young girl who was working on a FFA project and getting a line of purebred Boers.  Billy was part boer, and she said he was just a pet, not good for her line, so he became our newest goat family member.  He and Ester became good buddies.  They werent in a pen for awhile, and ruled the yard.  When they both started trying to "help" me take groceries into the house, and Billy would sit on the steps and look in my back door and knock, I knew it was time they were penned.

By the way, the little girl ElleMae whose picture is on the home page, is Ester and Billys baby.  Aint she just beautiful???  :)

Penny, Dolly, Gizelle, Baby, Millie, Ruth, Grace and Big Moose

Next to come here was Gizelle.  She was pregnant when she came, and she had Baby a couple of months later.   Gizelle is not tame, but Baby is.  Then there was Bertha, who we got rid of because she was so mean to Ester.  Dolly and Penny came next.  Dolly is sometimes a bully to Ester and Penny, but a very beautiful black part nubian.  Penny is a brown girl, the color of a penny and is the goat that "talks."  She is tame and loves to be petted.  When she talks, she doesnt sound anything like a goat, more like a  baby whining.  She has taught Millie, the young part Boer, to talk, and they compete at times for who can get Tommys attention first.  Ruth is part Boer, looks alot like Billy but alittle bigger.  She is coming around to letting us pet her.  Moose and Grace are the newest goats to the group.  Moose is huge, a big beautiful Alpine, or part Alpine anyway.  He is the ladies man!  Poor Billy has tried and tried to get Penny and Ruth to love him, they would run and ignore him, but Moose steps in, and its all love then.  Hurt Billys feelings I think.  Grace is one of Mooses offspring that we want to mate with Billy.  We also had Molly and Lester, both boer, but Lester must have been sick when we bought him, because he died, and Molly got sick, I think mainly from being picked on by Dolly and Ruth and she died.  I have spent alot of time looking up goat illnesses, trying to figure out what they had.  Thanks to alot of info on other websites, which are in my links section, I have learned so much about what to do to care for them.
